I had never heard this term before, but I guess I'm glad that people didn't just make it up! And I had no idea that they actually whistled!

@Jack ****, growing up there were plenty of times that we just had to eat whatever Dad could shoot. I barely remember groundhog, I think it tasted like a cross between pork and dark meat chicken.

Possum is super greasy, and tastes pretty much exactly what you think a rat would taste like! LOL

If you know how to whistle in the right way, they will stand on their hind legs and look around. I have never heard one whistle, but they react to whistles.

Such is what our sources calls fellers which shows up at a commisioners meeting ablowing they whistles on them ol boys, they ain't knowed to be real nice when they drinking and sh**

I have always called groundhogs whistlepigs. Never ate but one and it was pretty good. Slow cooked, tasted like roast beef.

Without looking it up, do you know what a whistlepig is?

This is supposedly a common Western NC term, but not one that I'd ever heard
